Mission Statement
After receiving Swedish licensure as a registered nurse in the mid-1980’s, I began to work in one of Sweden’s first palliative home care teams. This clinical experience triggered my involvement in research in psychosocial oncology and palliative care, which have been my areas of focus for the past 20 years.
As professor of nursing, I am committed to finding ways and means to overcome the gap between research, professional education and clinical development which presently hinders constructive change. I have been responsible for several projects trying to find innovative ways to integrate these areas in caring for people with advanced cancer in different settings. As EAPC is a forum for researchers, clinicians and educators, I hope to be able to help further efforts that join these groups in working for common goals.
As researcher, I am well integrated in relevant nursing and multidisciplinary groups locally, nationally and internationally, which can help develop palliative research, educational and practice agendas in different settings. I am interested in working with colleagues to find creative ways to overcome the problems that clinically relevant research with seriously ill people naturally encounters, as well as working toward more collaborative research efforts in Europe—both multidisciplinary research and nursing research. As present member of the board of trustees of the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC), one important role in the EAPC board would be as liaison with, and in advancing palliative care issues in the ISNCC.
