Mission Statement
I have enjoyed contributing to the EAPC as a board member and member of the executive committee for the last 4 years. The last 2 years I also represented the EAPC at the INGO conference of the Council of Europe, which made it possible to ask specific interest for paliative care in the development of a policy for the elderly. Together with Lukas Radbruch and Carlos Centeno we were able to inform mr. Wodarg (rapporteur on palliative care) from the parliamentary assembly about the knowledge available in the EAPC, eg. the directory on palliative services. I would like to continue to advocatte for palliative care.
I have been one of the fouders of the Dutch national association for Palliative care NPTN and am now secretary of the board of the national association. Being the director of the Dutch national support centre for palliative terminal care I am responsible fot exchange of knowledge, informing professionals and the public on developments, organising conferences and stimulating debate.
I would also like to continue to inform members and non-members on activities of the EAPC, especially through modern webtechnology. I also would like to stimulate national organizations to learn from each other and use the things colleagues have developed. The Dutch national support centre for palliative terminal care has developed a simple but very usefull tool we developed to inform the general public on palliative care services in their region. ( See http://www.palliatief.nl/ZorgKiezen/tabid/1193/Default.aspx )
We also constructed the EAPC abstract database, which made the abstracts from past and coming EAPC congresses available for everybody. (http://eapc.palliatief.nl/)
So would like to contribute for another period.
