Mission Statement
In Spring 2002, I have been asked to join the scientific committee of the «Resarch Congress in Palliative Care». I did enjoy very much that session, sharing with the group. In order to prepare for the congress in Lyon my topics, which was called “ disclosure of information to palliative patients “, I looked for information about legal, deontological and ethical approaches of information to the patients from the European Parliament, the European Commission and each representative of the 15 European countries. I then received a lot of documents among which two main press “dossiers” called “ Ethical issues of healthcare in the information society” from the European Commission (1999) andthe report from the European ethical group of sciences and new technologies in the European community “ (1998-2000).
It was then obvious that the disclosure of information to the patients was a very important issue for Europe, since every country is looking forwards to guidelines taking into account both, European ethical principles and also specific ones due to the various cultures and politics of different countries Such a topics might be suggested as a project for a EAPC network.
Being very interested in that field, I then made up my mind to apply for joining the EAPC board in the Hague in 2003 in order to:
- develop the Palliative care attitudes in European countries develop links between French speaking practitioners and other Europeans:
- help the diffusion of French language scientific research
- participate to the organization of the next congress
- suggest and, if agreed, organise a network called “ disclosure of information to the palliative care patients, hisfamily and proxy”.
yours faithfully.
