Mission Statement
I first became involved in palliative care teaching and research in 1990, when I was one of those who founded the Trent Palliative Care Centre, in Sheffield, UK. Over time my interests in palliative care have taken an increasingly international dimension. If elected to the EAPC board, I would seek to raise awareness about the situation of palliative care in the resource poor countries of the European Region, concentrating on those in Eastern and Central Europe which are experiencing economic and social transition.
I would bring to the board an extensive knowledge of the history and development of palliative care in Europe, an understanding of policy issues at the European level, and a wide knowledge of related research.
I would encourage EAPC to:
- extend the work of its taskforces;
- consider ways of expanding its range of interests and influence outside the palliative care specialty
- explore ways in which it might more effectively promote the development of European palliative care in the 21st century.
