EAPC Taskforce “E.P.S.O. project”
European Palliative Stage Opportunity
E.P.S.O. is a taskforce project of The European Association for Palliative Care and stands for European Palliative Stage Opportunity ( E.P.S.O.). The aim of E.P.S.O. is to develop a network of clinical experience opportunities for all palliative care practitioners across Europe. Through links with the EAPC website and the websites of the collective member associations, a structured information and application system is available so that palliative care professionals can apply to a specific centre/country and undertake a period of clinical experience there.
The task group members of E.P.S.O. are palliative care educators and managers with a specific interest in developing links between professionals across Europe, through the exchange of learning and knowledge.
The members of the task force (in alphabetic order) are:

Thework began at the EAPC congress in The Hague under the auspices of the task force for nurse education of the EAPC and a workgroup in the Netherlands under the direction of Corry Van Tol. Work meetings continued at the EAPC congress in Aachen, the research forum of the EAPC in Venice and 3 full days at the Flemish Federation of palliative care in Brussels. For the first time, news about E.P.S.O. was given at the EAPC congress of Budapest during a “meet the experts” session.
At this point, the taskforce group have formulated goals and objectives and clarified important issues like definition of terms, roles, responsibilities of the applicant and host centres, models of contract, legal and finances issues and proposed an operational plan on how to structure stage possibilities in Europe. In terms of implementation, the operational plan (promotion package, website, letter for the national associations, etc) is now complete . All documentation will be translated initially into English, French and Dutch.
A pilot project from the six countries of the taskforce members will commence in January 2008. Discussions with the national associations are in progress at this time,. As a task group we are convinced that this project will open and enhance a new era in Europe to learn about palliative care through experience. The benefit of E.P.S.O. is increased collaboration and diversity that will be shared.

Le projet EPSO: un projet du Groupe de travail EAPC
EPSO, projet du Groupe de travail “stage” de l’EAPC, est l’abréviation de European Palliative Stage Stage Opportunity. Le but de l’EPSO est de développer un réseau de possibilités de stage clinique pour tous les praticiens en soins palliatifs en Europe. Le website de l’EAPC et celui des associations membres collectifs de l’EAPC fournissent des informations structurées et un formulaire d’inscription permettant aux professionnels de soins palliatifs de choisir un centre de soins palliatifs spécifique et une période de stage clinique.
Les membres du Groupe de travail EPSO sont des formateurs et des gestionnaires en soins palliatifs vivement intéressés à développer des liens entre professionnels européens par le biais d’un échange de connaissances.

Le travail a débuté durant le Congrès EAPC de La Haye sous les auspices du Groupe de formation infirmière de l’EAPC sous la direction de Philip Larkin et d’un groupe de travail des Pays-Bas sous la direction de Corry Van Tol. Les rencontres du Groupe de travail EPSO se sont déroulées ensuite à Venise, pendant le Forum de recherche EAPC, puis 3 jours complets à la Fédération Flamande de soins palliatifs. Les premières informations concernant le projet EPSO ont été transmises durant une session « rencontrez les experts » du Congrès de Budapest.
Le Groupe de travail a formulé des objectifs généraux et spécifiques et clarifié des points importants tels que la definition des termes, les rôles et responsabilités pour le stagiaire et le lieu de stage, les modèles de contrats, les questions légales et financières. Il a également proposé un plan opérationnel afin de structurer les possibilités de stage en Europe. En termes d’implémentation, le plan opérationnel est maintenant complet (package de promotion, website, lettre pour les associations nationales, etc). Dans un premier temps, tous les documents seront traduits en anglais, français et hollandais.
Un projet pilote débutera dès janvier 2008 dans les 6 pays des membres du Groupe de travail. Des discussions sont en cours avec les associations nationales. En tant que Groupe de travail nous sommes convaincus que ce projet ouvrira un nouveau champ d’action en Europe en valorisant l’apprentissage par l’expérience pratique clinique, avec pour conséquence une collaboration intensifiée et un partage dans la diversité.
Le Groupe de travail souhaite remercier le nouveau Board de l’EAPC 2007-2011 pour son soutien de même que la Fédération flamande de soins palliatifs pour son hospitalité.
