The following Board Members are standing for re-election: Mariléne Filbet (France), Carlos Centeno (Spain), Stain Kaasa (Norway), Sivlio Necchi (Italy - Treasurer).
Phil Larkin (Ireland), Françoise Porchet (Switzerland), Bernard Wary (France) who had been nominated by their National Associations are standing for election.

Membership

Membership fees 2003 will be the same as previous two years 40 Euro. The Board considers this more or less symbolic. Members must have renewed their fee for 2003 in order to participate at the next General Assembly.

Two Official Journals of the EAPC

The EAPC Board of Directors has concluded an agreement with the Publisher, Arnold and the Editor in Chief, Geoffrey Hanks, of Palliative Medicine to become the peer reviewed Journal of the EAPC while the European Journal for Palliative Care (EJPC) will remain the Journal of the EAPC.
Palliative Medicine is a scientific journal with a high research profile, while EJPC will still remain the multi professional journal guaranteeing a wide spectrum of commissioned articles.

This agreement permits us to offer the following additional advantage to our members:

  • A 20,3% reduction in the usual individual subscription fee (i.e. £118 instead of £148) for Europe to Palliative Medicine, the official peer reviewed journal of the EAPC. The rest of the world discount for EAPC Members is 18,6%! (£131 instead of £161.00).
  • The possibility to participate in a subscription list to Palliative Medicine, which will give access to an still more advantageous rate. This will be organised for our members for the end of 2002 beginning 2003 Attention: time limited (will be coming soon - check the EAPC Web site regularly)

From the EAPC co-ordination centre for Eastern Europe

Message to the members of the board of Directors of the EAPC Collective Members of Western Europe
Support for palliative care organisations in Eastern Europe
As you surely know one of the priorities of the EAPC for the future is the support of development of palliative care in Eastern Europe.
Palliative Care organisations in Eastern Europe are fairly newly established, as is the concept of palliative care. Most of palliative care is operating outside the ordinary health care system and all possible support to people working in palliative care is essential. Knowledge, information and sharing of all kinds as well as economic support is of course welcome.
To be part of the EAPC can provide many and useful contacts. To be in direct contact with other palliative care organisations directly might be even more important.
We would like to invite our Collective member organisations from Western Europe to adopt a sister palliative care organisation from the Eastern part of Europe by paying their annual membership fee in the EAPC for two years.
Please consider the importance of a solidarity action of this kind. It may end with this rather limited support, but it could also develop into extended support and exchange.
The cost to support one Eastern European Palliative Care Organisation is only 40 € for 2003.
If you consider this a good idea, please send an Email to sylvia.sauter@stockholmssjukhem.se telling about your intentions. I will then get in contact with you with more details of how to organise this adoption. Thank you in advance for your help!
Sylvia Sauter, Centre Manager
