LECTURES AND TOPICS
Plenary lectures
Plenary lectures cover key aspects of palliative care and its development and future challenges. The lectures will include a plenary in memory of Virgilio Floriani, "The Floriani Lecture" and an EAPC award lecture presented by one distinguished contributor to palliative care development.
The plenary lectures will cover the following topics: A global perspective - Africa, Dehydration, Cognitive impairment, Resilience, The difficult meeting, Cultural aspects, Paediatric palliative care, Quality and standards, Advanced care planning and Education.
Plenary follow up - parallel sessions
Each plenary lecture will be followed by a 1.5 hour follow up session giving other aspects of the main topic and time for discussions between the speakers and the audience.
Other topics will be highlighted in 1.5 hour parallel sessions.
Paediatric palliative care
The Congress program is highlighting issues of palliative care for children including a morning meet the expert session, a plenary lecture, parallel sessions and free paper sessions.
Free communication - oral presentations
The scientific committee and external experts have reviewed submitted abstracts. The abstracts rated highest in terms of originality and relevance for palliative care, clarity and scientific standard have been selected for oral presentations.
Workshops
Workshops include a variety of formats, mostly interactive and sometimes with a limited number of participants (“first come – first served”).
Guided poster tours
Posters will be assessed by a poster review panel while displayed for exhibition during the three congress days. A selection of the most interesting posters will be presented/discussed during guided poster tours chaired by experts in palliative care.
Morning/meet the expert sessions
The purpose of these sessions is to give the participants the possibility to meet informally with experts of different fields of palliative care. The sessions are educational and interactive. Basic knowledge as well as new developments and controversies in relation to clinical experience and scientific evidence will be included.
National meetings
The Congress will offer the opportunity for EAPC Collective Members to arrange national or regional meetings focused on issues of local development. Meetings will be arranged on the request by the Collective Member Organisations well in advance of the Congress. For further details please contact: at the EAPC Head Office.
