People with a life threatening diseases try to find complementary care beside the regular medical care. It is a mean to strengthen their grip on their life and to cope with the negative consequences of the disease and the treatment. The Lorenz Hospital in Zeist (the Netherlands) developed a massage project for cancer patients at the day clinic. Thirteen patients participated in the project. They filled in a questionnaire about their quality of life, emotional wellbeing, body image and meaning in life. After the three months they filled in again the questionnaire. Comparing of the pre- and after measures, shows that the patients after the massage showed less social restrictions in their daily life, less depressive feelings, less angry and less strain, more meaning in live and a better body image. It may be concluded that massage for palliative cancer patients during their treatment influence positively the quality of life and well-being.
