‘‘PALLIATIVE CARE IN ALBANIA’’ Prospect for the future

The aim of this presentation is to expose the characteristics and efficiency of domiciliary assistance for patients who require Palliative Care in the condition of a poor country and limited financial possibilities. Also to clarify the importance of the Hospice as reference centre for the founding of other centers in other parts of the country.
The material and the result: There were studied 2200 patients in assistance followed by Ryder Albania Team and the efficiency of domiciliary care in 10 years of activity. It’s been also studied the role of the first Hospice in the treatment of 82 patients in the physic, social, economic and psychological aspect and in the same time its role as an education- training centre.There were tested the clinical files of patients treated and the questionnaires made during the education-training courses to appreciate the level of knowledge’s of the participants in the field of Palliative Care before starting these courses.
Conclusions: 1. In the conditions of the global Ca increase, it is necessary to create small groups as experts of palliative care in each town even in the developing countries. The cases of HIV/AIDS in our country made emergent the creation of this teams in the settings of global strategies of these pathologies. 2. It is necessary the foundation of a Hospice centre with multiexperts from different fields for the education of medical staff, knowing the low level of this education actually in Medicine Faculty, Social Works Faculty etc. 3. It is important the foundation of National Palliative Care associations to impress the Government Structures for the introduction of Palliative Care in health strategies and the procurement of necessary financial resources.
