Children often receive inadequate palliation as they and their families face life-threatening illness together. One of the many barriers to effective palliative care is inadequate provider education, or provider education that does not "fit" the clinical and academic milieu of care. At the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, we have developed and implemented an approach to provider and unit-specific education about pediatric palliative care using rapid-cycle quality improvement (RCQI) methodology. The hallmarks of the RCQI approach are that it is rapid, flexible, incremental, and engages learners in the process of change. In this workshop, the learner will be provided with strategies for: Educational needs assessment in their own institutions Creating tension for change Creating an "action plan" for change Adapting educational methods to fit "learners on the fly" Preliminary data from our efforts will also be presented. (Suggested topic how to choose the appropriate research methodology; WORKSHOP).
