The Scientific Working Group Quality of Life and Symptoms has been recently established within the European Hematology Association. Coordination of QoL and symptom research within the new Scientific Working Group in EHA will improve quality of care for patients with hematological diseases, will help formulate symptom outcome measures of hematological clinical trials, which should result in better treatment outcomes, and will provide data for health-policy decisions. One of the priorities of the Scientific Working Group is to initiate international clinical trials to reduce the symptom burden in patients with hematological malignancies.
The Chair of the Working Group is C. S. Cleeland, ,McCullough Professor of Cancer Research, Chair of Department of Symptom Research, the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, USA. Its co-Chair is A. A. Novik, Professor of Internal Medicine and Hematology, Chair of The A.A. Maximov Hematology/BMT Department, National Pirogov Medical Surgical Center, Moscow, Russia.
The first meeting of the Scientific Working Group on Quality of Life and Symptoms, was held on 17th June 2006, 18.00-20.00 in Amsterdam RAI Convention Center.
