Congress Programme
In addition to the abstract presenters, an international panel of 141 invited speakers and chairs from 26 different countries and were involved in the following sessions:
- 12 “Meet the Expert Sessions” provided a broad understanding of palliative care – from genetics to music therapy, from understanding the palliative care needs across the lifespan to the demands of current policy and practice.
- 5 Plenary-Sessions and 24 Parallel Symposia, presented not only topics of pain and symptom control but also ethical, psychosocial and spiritual issues. A specific focus on children, elderly people and the development in politics not only in Europe, but also in developing countries was also included in the Vienna programme
- 14 Free-Communication-Sessions, during which the most highly evaluated of the submitted abstracts, were presented in short reports, making it possible to illustrate current developments across the various research themes.
- 7 industry-sponsored Symposia were presented which demonstrated new medications for clinical use and current research on therapies which will be of use to practitioners in the coming months
