Department of Palliative Medicine, Western Health Board, Galway, Ireland.
Post: Palliative Care Co-Ordinator (Nursing Services)and Clinical lecturer in Palliative Care Colaiste na hOllscoile, Gaillimh.( National University of Ireland, Galway). Responsible for the overall planning and development of palliative nursing services in the Western region of Ireland, specifically new hospital based specialist nursing services and clinical supervision of palliative nursing staff from Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Remit includes the development of continuing education, interdisciplinary teamwork strategies, case management advice and consultancy to The Galway Hospice Foundation on issues of clinical nursing practice. Links to centres of 3rd level education such as the Centre for Nursing Studies, NUI Galway through Clinical lectureship forms a significant part of the role, as well as taking a leadership role in formulating policies and practices, standards and frameworks for best practice. I am also responsible for a one year postgraduate programme at Diploma Level in Palliative Care for Registered Nurses which we hope to develop as an interdisciplinary course in the future.
